Dr Phil Cashian (Head of Composition) asked me to write a piece for a solo instrument for the Royal Academy of Music’s ‘200 Pieces Project’, which celebrates the Bicentenary of the Royal Academy of Music in 2022. My piece was written for the marimba and entitled ‘KumbuKumbu’ (2021), which means commemoration in Swahili.

I was invited to be a panellist for the discussion about ‘Diversity and the British String Quartet’ by the Villiers String Quartet in Residence at Oxford University for The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities. They also commissioned me to write a piece for String Quartet, reflecting a theme across the pandemic. My piece was called ‘Solicitudo’, reflecting on the frailty of the elderly and the illnesses they suffered across the pandemic.
